I’m not the best example of stress management or slowing things down to give myself some breathing room. This summer made me realize how I need to prioritize self-care, writing breaks, and preventing serious burnout. Back in September, right as I was coming out of the thickness of depression, I made a commitment to myself that I wouldn’t let those triggers drag me back down. The biggest one of those is work stress, which isn’t shocking if you’re freelancing and running your own game.
One of my favorite content creators wrote about taking every 7th week off for small scale sabbaticals. I decided to give it a shot and counted 7 weeks out. It happened to fall right in line with our elk hunting trip near Steamboat, AND IT WAS AWESOME. It was exactly what I needed to stay fresh with writing. I had already scheduled the next break 7 weeks out and was committed to doing this all through 2015.
So, that next week-long break takes place this week. How convenient that it’s during Christmas week when everyone is out doing their holiday things and not catching up on blog posts anyway. I’m not exactly on vacation and going anywhere special, but I’m not writing. I’m sure I’ll be up in the mountains a lot anyway since that’s my sanctuary, and I bet I’ll come back with a bunch of outdoor adventures to write about.
I’ll be back in action with a blog post early next week! Until then, have fun out there and enjoy!
